Lately, I've been struggling with a downward spiral in my mental health and depression, and I'm actively working so it doesn't get the best of me. With the support of my family, I've been implementing 5 weekly activities that support my mental wellbeing, and that are helping me to stay focused and with a clear heart and mind during this trying time.
Attending an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
I've committed to attend an Intensive Outpatient program (often referred to as IOP), over the next four weeks. The commitment requires you to be in attendance between 5-8vPM three nights a week and may be covered by your health insurance (note daily FT and PT options are available). It includes group and individual therapy, holistic medicine, and support from a nurse practitioner who provide nutrition and medication support among other things. You can read more about my journey so far Deep Dive into IOP: A Participant’s Journey Toward Better Mental Health and Week 1 in IOP: My Journey to Better Mental Health - Drifting Towards Simplicity.
Journalling
I've begun a weekly journalling exercise, sometimes using prompts similar to those I shared Journal Prompts for Mental Health - Drifting Towards Simplicity Blog, and sometimes just free writing and reflecting on my week and how I've been coping. This is an opportunity for self-reflection and a way to close out or begin the week strong. So, grab a journal and give it a try.

My youngest daughter Brooklyn and I love to head out to our local Farmer's Marketing early Saturday morning, grab a coffee (ok not for her), and see what all of the sellers have on offer. I know ensuring I'm eating a variety of colorful and fresh, fruits and vegetables will support my mental and physical health beyond ways I can measure. More importantly, this is time for us, time for just Brooklyn and I to spend together with Dad or siblings and connect. If you are local to DFW, and get a chance, the Rockwall Farmer's Market is one of the best in the metroplex.
That's it, three things, some big, some small, that I'm doing to improve my mental health and wellbeing today. Read more about my journey here- Achieve Simplicity and Balance | Drifting Towards Simplicity - Start Your Journey Today
