Tips and Tricks to Combat Sunday Scaries and Achieve Better Work-Life Balance

Updated: Jun 22

I must confess, I've recently been struggling with a severe bout of Sunday Scaries. This feeling mainly stems from dealing with my current episode of depression, alongside a sense of dissatisfaction with my job and questioning if it's the right fit for my career aspirations at this moment. I view Sunday Scaries as an intrusive guest that disrupts my tranquil weekends, making it increasingly difficult to prepare for the upcoming week. Here are some tips and strategies I've gathered to help both myself and my readers tackle their own Sunday Scaries and achieve better work-life balance:

- Reframe Your Mindset – Instead of thinking, 'Ugh, Monday is coming', try shifting to your mindset to 'I have a fresh start ahead'.

- Plan Something Fun for Sunday Night – A cozy movie, a favorite meal, or a relaxing bath can make Sunday feel less like a countdown to stress.

- Prep for Monday in Advance – Lay out your outfit, check your meeting calendar, prep meals, or make a to-do list so Monday feels less overwhelming.

- Try and limit Work Thoughts – If possible, avoid checking emails or thinking about work until Monday morning.

- Make Sundays Special – Instead of dreading them, turn Sundays into a day of self-care and relaxation. For my family, lately this has involved church, a meal, and a nap - no complaints!

You’ve got this! What’s your go-to Sunday ritual?
