Essential Items for Mental Wellness

Taking care of my mental health isn't just about therapy, medications, and self-reflection. It's also about having essential items on hand that help me support myself. Here’s a list of seven things I rely on to enhance my mental well-being.

1. Journal
I love making lists! Whenever my mind feels scattered or I'm a bit off, jotting down a list or my thoughts helps me relax. It provides clarity. Plus, writing things down can lighten my emotional load.
2. Ice Roller
This is a must-have for me when my mental health dips and I face headaches or migraines. Technically a skincare tool, I use it on my forehead and around my eyes for quick relief when headaches strike. It’s refreshing, soothing, and helps ease tension.
3. Kindle
As a bookworm, I enjoy diving into a good read to unwind. No matter how I'm feeling, a good book is a remedy. I especially love historical non-fiction, Mediterranean diet cookbooks, and self-help genres. Reading provides an escape and brings me joy.
4. A Good Book
I’m always absorbed in a new book. My latest read was Raising Calm Kids in a World of Worry: Tools to Ease Anxiety and Overwhelm by Ashley Graber and Maria Evans. Concerned about our daughter's anxiety, my husband and I found this book invaluable. It's a great resource for parents wanting to help their kids while also recognizing their own childhood patterns that affect mental well-being.
I’ve relied on these patches since high school, often picking them up at Asian grocery stores. When I face headaches or muscle pain, they are my go-to remedy. This simple item offers much-needed relief, and I can't imagine being without it.
6. Face Mask
When I am struggling with my mental health, I love to take a bath and apply this face mask. It’s a small indulgence that truly helps lift my spirits. Plus, it's an affordable treat that makes a difference.
7. Cup of Tea
Tea is my ultimate comfort drink. It’s the kind my mom always has at home, and I grew up drinking it. Whenever I'm under the weather or feeling low, this warm beverage is my reliable boost. Creating a moment of calm, the warmth makes everything feel a bit better.
The Importance of Self-Care
Self-care is crucial for maintaining mental wellness. It is essential to find the right balance in life. Whenever I utilize these support tools, I feel more in control. They help me manage stress and feel grounded in challenging moments.
